Palomar 300a customers working on the bench
Recapped, gone thru, cut diode traces fixed, loose ground screws and cold solder joints fixed, great set of tubes, Nomad Radio relay Keying circuit PCB installed and amp doing what it is supposed to do except the Nomad board doesn't have a Preamp so no preamp.
Only issue is should I address the mounting hole issue on the Nomad PCB or leave it alone? That mounting hole is not grounded, just holds the board in place. If it was a ground point, I would address it for sure.

Palomar 300a customers had me going for a few minutes

Yeah, another 300a. I know I said I wouldn't, but I said I would take this one on quite a while ago. I have a lot going on personally, and that's why I had recently took my UA-cam site here down too. However, even though I am getting older and slower and 'losing' it, I still eat 300a's for breakfast and I was hungry for breakfast so I took this on. It had been recapped, but it was done badly. Another Vintage Linear Amplifier Gotcha, check your Grounds.
Переглядів 221День тому
My junkbox Maco 300 stripping it down on the bench. Check your grounds. Never seen one this bad. Termninal strips are very loose. This amp would never work right with these grounding issues. I will drill these out, strip the metal back to bare, and then screw and bolt them down tight with a star washer.
Astatic D104 Mic with very rare early vintage unamplified 'GP' stand with VOX

Just a walkthru of this early vintage Astatic D104 Mic with a very rare unamplified G P stand with VOX. It is so rare that I cannot find any info on this on the net. The D104 head on this Mic is a stock crystal D104 head. What's interesting to me about this Mic is the GP sticker on the base and the N V setting switch underneath. Since I couldn't find anything on the net, well, let's just open i...

Available is a Peter Dahl upgrade transformer designed specifically for the Blackcat JB-2000 amplifier. This has all the secondary output voltages that is needed to directly replace the internal transformer of the infamous Blackcat JB-2000 amplifier. Has 1200vac HV that goes to the Blackcat voltage doubler circuit for HV. However, this voltage is much higher than a stock JB-2000. It will make t...

Quick vid underneath and in action of the very hard to find Blackcat JB-440. Basically a JB-12 driving 2 JB-76 (200's) in one box. I was going to try to draw a schematic of this but it is so close that if you need to work on one, just look up schematics of the 12 and 76 and that should do it. 1 6BQ5 driving 4 6550A's. This is a swinging machine. The dead key can be dialed from 1-200 and it stil...

Tram D201A restore part 1 BA PCB rebuild
Переглядів 74День тому
Refurbing a Tram D201A. I usually start with the BA PCB. It sits right next to the very hot running 6L6 audio tube. Too much heat is the main problem of D201 circuit board models and especially at the BA board. I replace the 2 watt carbon resistors with 3 watt flameproof and replace the 85 degree caps with 105 degree caps. On this one the bridge rectifier was bad too so it was replaced.
My brand new new toy, unboxing. Yaesu MD1 Reference Microphone.

Normally I'm strictly old school, but when something comes out that works better, I want it. Well, this dual element Microphone with dual volume controls and dual EQ was just the ticket. Can be tailored to your voice and if adjusted right, will give your voice that extra 'Presence'. These Mics list for around $800 and that's a lot for a Mic and why it took me so long to get one. I got this off ...

Things were going ok with this D201 with high miles, started at the Audio board, then redid the Balanced Modulator board and the Plug in BA board and all looked well so far. However after getting to the bottom of the A receiver board, parts of it are toast. I suppose that board can be fixed, but I can't be sure that radio can be gotton up to top standards. Burned boards like that tend to burn a...
Latest Ebay toy/prize, grand opening, unobtainium General Radiotelephone MC-12 vintage CB radio

Grand opening of my latest prize. General Radiotelephone MC-12. I have said many times I have slowed down a lot with this hobby. Not much selling anymore, no more customer repairs, and very little buying, but from what little I know, or don't know, about this MC-12 CB: From what I heard, it was the last CB radio made by General Radiotelephone. Its predecessor, the MC-11 had push/pull modulation...

Just gathering all my 776 Mics and got a few fully going. Got 2 Brown Stripes going for my Mark 3 and R27/S23 and got an Orange Stripe going for my Sikscreened Mark 4A. The Brown stripe came with late Mark 's and the Orange strip came with the Mark IV's. None originally had a...

Hey Doc, Sorry to hear about your mom. My mom would have been 93. She passed at 38. My aunt, my mother's sister just turned 90 in Feb. Good job on the Palomar.
THAT TRANSFORMER WAS ONE NOISY PUPPY 😂🍺🍺
Bless Your Mom and Family.
What can you do with a set of 4cx1000ks I have a set picked up a clean out n got them and 22 radios all work I have no use for the tubes
Cool.
I don't know what happened, but I have not seen any notifications from your channel, so, I'm catching up now (6/30/24).
He told me that he had a lot going on and he was just going to take a temporary break
Nice job 👍🏻
Keep rambling.I love the info.No one explaines why.Thank you.
What would you charge for your repair if you were back in the day? Thank you tramdr. Bless you!
Greetings, I have a very clean JB12 that needs work, are you willing to look at it?
sorry, I'll pass. Often with those the transformer is blown and I don't know of a replacement that will fit inside.
I've got a 600 for sale
whats the price, where r u?
I still have my CP2000 and CP2500.
though I got rid if this one, I do have them both again too, though I have not got to them yet.
Awesome
well thanks.

Don't forget to freshen up the solder joints. After 50 years a cold joint will make you pull your hair out trying to figure out why it's not working right.
that and tighten those PCB mounting screws and if it has loose rivets, get rid of the rivets and bolt it down.
@@tramdr If you don't do that to a TRC-459 it will squeal on transmit. I've seen this on other radios too.
I just saw Pics of a mohawk that I never knew existed. It's got what looks to me as a 3.500z tube with a driver tube. I can't tell it's model. It's for sale on ebay right now! Guy has it listed as a 572b box but when he sent me pics is when I noticed it had a 3.500 z tube but it's got out of my price range. I don't know why I felt the need to tell you all this but I did.. Anyway have a great day if you was to end up with it I'd sure like to see a video on it... I would think it's worth checking into either way I wanted to pass on the info to someone who is as passionate as I am about amps as ii am!
Yeah, I looked that one up. I would say not factory. Someone modded that.
@@tramdr I was curious but if I can figure out how to send these pics I got to I will. Idk i figure you the one to know considering I can't find nothing on the 7a I got still hunting a full schematic or some knowalge that's beyond mine. Someone along the line has reworked it needless to say input tune and bias is off..
I look at those pics again and you was right it's been modded. They left the 572b parts still in it.. @@tramdr
Do you have any mk IIIs for sale
Yep, a nice clean redone and working great one for 500
That sounded pretty good. The are however plenty of splatterboxes
Not being rude but from the looks of it that 6bq5 is the keyup tube not a driver tube.
58 sec mark shows the output of the driver tube going to the driver tank circuit and then into the input of the output tubes. Also, though a 6bq5 can be used as a keyup tube, usually 6aq5 tubes are used as keyup tubes and usually 6bq5's are used as power tubes.
@@tramdr copy that...I was trying to see but just couldn't tell. I know you're quite good at what you do and thought you might have misspoke. Yeah I've had a few boxes that had 6bq5 keyup tubes but typically, like you said, it is the 6aq5. This is the first one of these amps I have ever seen. Good stuff brother!
I would like upates as time permits. You were missed looking after your family. I hope all is well now 73s.
Excellent video
They're kinda funny shaped, as compared to modern small plastic body transistors.
I love your channel and can tell me how can someone talk to you on the double L
I want one 😉
What happened to your channel ? 22 subs ? Something is wrong
I"m confused why you lost all of your subscribers? It looks like all your videos are still here, but everyone is having to re-subscribe? That's so strange
It’s a custom
Made in September of 79 ! That’s a keeper
I have 50 plus D 104s in my collection and NONE of theme are made like that !
That is a custom mic that they didn’t really offer. My friend worked for Astatic for years and he doesn’t remember this mic when I talked with him about it ! You have a jewel there my man !
I know what you mean when it comes to shipping. There's no common sense. Plastic shopping bags Newspaper People want every penny of what you're paying for these days to go to profit. No bubble wrap use boxes with holes. They use the cheapest shipping methods. Not realizing the longer it's on the road, more likely it to be destroyed. love the generals.
Thanks for the video, on the MC12. I just found your channel, and hit the like and am following. Dirty Diaper 21

No tune or load caps on this amp? Never seen that before.....explain please thanks
It has them, but they are fixed capacitors, not variable. Blackcat tried to make their amps dummy proof. Didn't want people blowing them up by mistuning them.
Can’t wait to get mine right
Awesome radios when right.

What happened to your previous videos? 🤔☹️
I suspended them. I have family emergencies going on. I am now trying to turn everything back on, but it's a huge hassle. I'm not sure UA-cam will let me get it all back.

Can I use 100 UF 350 VDC 80c in my Maverick
Yes, but more uf's would be better and also adding some bleeders would be better too. Careful that amp doesn't have bleeders so it can bite.
@@tramdr thank you my 16 year old grandson trying to learn
My XL-350 has 1 driving 3. The faceplate looks like someone draw a "3" over the first number?
Lol your so much like me ... The more they talk the more I show em just saying that they forgot .lol ..lol ppl have know clue, some of us actually know some shit
The Buddy Base receiver schematic that I have shows that receiver as a superhetrodyne with dual conversion and multiple IF stages, so it should be as tight as you will ever find in a CB radio. If yours is acting like a super regen receiver as you crank up the RF gain, you need to look at neutralizing the first RF amp stage because it shouldn't be self oscillating... If your transmitter is different, then your receiver might be different too, and I can send you a link to the schematic if you need it. Dennis #12
I would very much like to get a copy of the schematic for that version of the transmitter. The one I have is for the 2E26 version of the transmitter and I need the one for the higher power (6146?) version. If you could point me in the right direction, like a hyperlink, I would greatly appreciate it. Dennis #12
I've got a Maco KW plus linear have you ever seen one or worked on one anyways it's not working right now I kind of shorted out the key up circuit or something unit still lights up but won't key up. Thanks for any help.
I have had a few Maco KW's. I have never had a KW+. The keying circuits in all Maco's are twitchy. I replaced the keying circuit in them with the Nomad Radio Keying circuit.
Thanks for your reply I don't know how much work it is to replace the key up circuit. Also I like your videos good job🙂
I have the same amplifier but I don't have the complement of it. Could you send me a diagram and I would like to know how much amperage it is in volts and amperage?
